Itinerary
Arrival at airport, transfer to hotel for overnight stay in Islamabad.
Early morning flight to Skardu (weather dependent). If flight cancelled, travel by road with overnight in Chilas.
In case the flight has operated, we will go for a sightseeing tour of Skardu, and in case of no flight, the day will be used for overland travel from Chilas to Skardu (total drive is 22 – 24 hrs from Islamabad to Skardu). Overnight stay in the hotel in Skardu.
Sightseeing in Skardu and final packing for the expedition.
After Breakfast, we will embark on jeeps for a full-day ride on a winding jeep trail to Askole – The last inhabited place on our way to the Great Glaciers. (Tent) Have your dinner and go for a good sleep. If you enjoyed the ride and are not tired, then you can explore the village of Askoli and its streets.
18-20km trek along Braldu River. Easy terrain with lunch at Korofoung near Panma and Braldo River junction. Cross wooden bridge to reach Jhula campsite.
7-8 hour challenging trek with 318m elevation gain. Follow Braldu River then ascend rocky terrain. First views of Baltoro Glacier, Bakhor Das Peak, and Paiju Peak. Arrive at last green oasis with trees.
Acclimatization day with optional hike for Trango Towers views. Porter celebration with traditional goat slaughter, bread baking, singing and dancing. Final shower and laundry opportunity.
14-15km strenuous trek on unstable moraine for 6-8 hours. Cross Paiju Glacier snout, lunch at Liligo, then climb to Khoburtse terrace (3,795m) with dramatic glacier views.
Short 6-8km trek in 3-4 hours. Continue moraine traverse then climb to historic Urdukas terrace (3,900m). Beautiful protected campsite with Trango Cathedral views and natural rock caves.
