Itinerary
Arrive in Skardu by flight or road. On arrival, transfer to the hotel. Rest and recover from travel while enjoying views of the surrounding mountains. In the afternoon, meet the team for a trek briefing and equipment check. Overnight in a hotel in Skardu.
Drive from Skardu to Khaplu and onward to Machulo village. The journey follows the Shyok River and offers beautiful views of orchards, villages, and surrounding peaks. Upon arrival, meet the trekking team, complete a briefing, and check equipment. Overnight in a local guesthouse or homestay in Machulo.
The trek begins with a steady ascent through summer pastures and open slopes. The trail is well defined and gradually gains altitude, allowing the body to adjust. Trekking time is around 3 to 5 hours. Overnight camping at Camp 1.
Continue ascending along ridgelines with increasingly wide views of the Karakoram. The terrain becomes more alpine as you approach Camp 2, located around 4,400 to 4,600 meters. Trekking time is around 4 to 6 hours. Overnight camping at Camp 2.
A rest and acclimatization day with a short hike above camp. This day improves comfort and safety for the viewpoint day and allows time for photography and rest. Overnight camping at Camp 2.
Early start for the main highlight of the trek. Climb to Machulo La viewpoint, reaching approximately 5,000 meters. On clear days, enjoy panoramic views of K2, Broad Peak, and the Gasherbrum group. After spending time at the viewpoint, descend carefully back to Camp 2. Trekking time is around 6 to 8 hours round trip. Overnight camping at Camp 2.
Descend back to Machulo village, then drive to Skardu. The trek can be completed in one long descent or broken with a short stop at Camp 1 depending on group pace.
