Itinerary
Touch down in Pakistan's capital. Your guide meets you at the airport, transfers you to your hotel and gives you the evening to settle in. Overnight stay in Islamabad.
A scenic drive north as the Karakoram Highway begins to reveal its character through forested valleys and the first mountain ridges. Brief stops en route. Arrive in Besham or Naran by evening. Overnight stay.
Short stops at Chilas, the Three Mountain Junction where the Karakoram, Hindukush and Himalaya converge, and the Astak Nala gorge. The drive along the Skardu Road is one of the most dramatic in the world as it traces the Indus River through sheer canyon walls. Arrive in Skardu by late evening. Overnight stay in Skardu.
A gentler day to recover from the road. Visit Upper and Lower Kachura Lakes — twin glacial lakes with emerald waters — with optional boating on the water. In the evening, head to Katpana Cold Desert for optional stargazing under one of the darkest, clearest skies in Pakistan. Overnight stay in Skardu.
Begin at Manthokha Waterfall, a towering cascade tucked deep into Kharmang Valley. Move on to Shigar Valley and the ancient Shigar Fort, a 600-year-old royal fort now restored as one of Pakistan's finest heritage landmarks. End the day at Sarfaranga Cold Desert where optional activities including quad biking, jeep safari and horse riding are available. Overnight stay in Skardu.
Board a 4x4 jeep for a full day excursion into either Basho Meadows, a lush hidden valley with the dramatic Chocolate Mountains, or Deosai National Park, one of the world's highest plateaus and home to the Himalayan brown bear (seasonal access). Evening return and overnight stay in Skardu.
Option 1: Scenic road journey back towards Islamabad with stops in Besham or Naran overnight. Option 2: Domestic flight to Islamabad with hotel check-in. New guide and vehicle assigned on arrival.
